At a brief ceremony after the valedictory, the Honourable Lady Chief Justice, Justice Gertrude Sackey Torkornoo, commended Justice
Mariama Owusu for her contribution to justice delivery in Ghana, sharing with guests the milestones of her judicial career from the
District Court to the Supreme Court.
Chief Justice Sackey Torkonoo observed that Justice Mariama Owusu worked without fear or favour and will be remembered for her
exemplary work on the Bench; “Saying goodbye isn’t easy but you have fought a good fight in delivering justice to the good people of Ghana”.

For her part, the Judicial Secretary, Her Ladyship Justice Cyra Pamela C.A. Koranteng, who is also a Justice of the Court of Appeal, extolled
the virtues of the retiring Justice. She indicated her retirement was a bitter-sweet moment for all who had worked with her, and commended
her for dedicating her life to the law and cause of justice in the country.

“Her judgments stand as monuments to judicial excellence”, the Judicial Secretary stated. Her Ladyship Justice Koranteng, read a citation from
the Judicial Service of Ghana, in honour of the valedictorian.
The National President of the Ghana Bar Association, Mrs. Efua Ghartey, also took the audience through the illustrious career of the respected
retiring member of the Supreme Court, from when she was called to the Bar, to her elevation to the apex court.

She posited that Article 2(c) of the Constitution of the Ghana Bar Association had been adhered to by Justice Mariama Owusu, as she indeed
did justice to all. She ended her remarks by quoting Proverbs 22:1 from the Good Book, and stated that “My Lady, that good name has announced you”.
Speaking as a representative of the Supreme Court Bench, His Lordship Justice Gabriel Pwamang noted, that Justice Mariama Owusu’s enduring quality
was her commitment to seeking justice for the disadvantaged in society. He implored her to place her enormous experience at the disposal of the Judiciary
even in her retirement.

Her Ladyship Justice Mariama Owusu in her remarks highlighted the tremendous improvements in the work of the Judiciary during her time on the Bench
and advised Judges be loyal to the law and let posterity judge their works. “Just be faithful to the law and let posterity judge you”.
She acknowledged all who had toiled with her on her long journey, and emphasised that the she needed rest from her labours so the new generation of
Lawyers could take over from her and the older generation of Judges.
