JSG Builds Capacity of Volta & Oti CCADR Mediators

The Judicial Service of Ghana has organized a capacity-building workshop in Ho to enhance the competencies of mediators under the Court-Connected Alternative Dispute Resolution (CCADR) Programme. The one-day training, held at the High Court, Ho, formed part of activities marking the First Term ADR Week in the Volta Region and brought together mediators from both the Volta and Oti Regions

Her Ladyship Justice Angelina Mensah-Homiah, Justice of the Court of Appeal and Judge with oversight responsibility for the CCADR Programme, led participants through a session on the ethics of ADR practice. Describing ADR ethics as a sensitive but essential aspect of mediation, she urged mediators to consistently “embody moral standards of good conduct” and uphold the principles of confidentiality, independence, and integrity.

“You should be independent in your thoughts and decisions to help maintain trust in the ADR process,” she advised, emphasizing the need for mediators to familiarize themselves with relevant laws and regulations to enhance efficiency and earn the confidence of court users.

Justice Mensah-Homiah also provided an in-depth walkthrough of the ADR Terms of Settlement, explaining its various components and guiding participants through practical drafting exercises using real-life scenarios.
