Justice Gertrude Torkornoo takes Office as New Chief Justice of Ghana




Her Ladyship, Justice Gertrude Araba Esaaba Sackey Torkornoo, a Justice of the Supreme Court,
has been sworn into office as the new and 15th Chief Justice of Ghana.


The President of the Republic, His Excellency Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo as mandated by the Constitution, 1992 presided over the swearing-in,
at the seat of government; Jubilee House in Accra, on Monday, June 12, 2023.

By her appointment, Justice Torkornoo becomes the third female Chief Justice of Ghana, after Justice Georgina Theodora Wood (2007-2017) and
Justice Sophia A. B. Akuffo (2017-2020).

The new Head of the Judiciary and the Judicial Service of Ghana, takes over from His Lordship Justice Anin Yeboah, who retired on May 24, 2023
at age 70, as required by Law.
